Cars in German City Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a man who discovered a car in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report early analysis show the liquid was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.

An important political figure stated the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
